The Global Asian Studies Program “Bridge to the Faculty” Postdoctoral Fellowship in Critical Refugee Studies

Position: Global Asian Studies Program “Bridge to the Faculty” postdoctoral fellowship in Critical Refugee Studies with a preferred focus on refugee displacements from Southeast Asia in an area of research expertise pertaining to imperialism, war and conflict, climate change, and/or economic precarity beginning August 16, 2021. The successful candidate must have completed their PhD in the humanities, social sciences, ethnic studies, or area studies – no earlier than August 15, 2017 and no later than August 15, 2021.  Postdoctoral research associates are expected to teach one course per year, maintain an active research agenda, work towards publishing their work, and participate in program activities. This is a full-time position and includes a competitive salary and benefits package.

Purpose: The Bridge to the Faculty postdoctoral program seeks to advance the diversity of the faculty by encouraging the recruitment, retention, and promotion of outstanding scholars from different backgrounds, with an emphasis on attracting individuals from groups who have been underrepresented in the social sciences and humanities. Subject to satisfactory performance, and university approval, the postdoctoral research associate will be re-appointed for one additional year. Successful postdocs in the Bridge to the Faculty program may have the opportunity to transition to a tenure-track faculty line at UIC starting in the 2023-2024 academic year. In addition to receiving active mentoring in GLAS, the Bridge to Faculty postdoc will be part of a cohort at the university level that will meet regularly through activities coordinated by the Office of Diversity.
