English
Postdoc Res Assoc
Chicago
01/04/2021

The Department of English at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a “Bridge to the Faculty” Postdoctoral Research Associate position in English Education beginning August 16, 2021. Bridge to the Faculty is a program designed to recruit historically underrepresented scholars with the goal of transitioning them to tenure-track faculty members after two years.  This recruitment initiative aims to attract and retain promising candidates to UIC as well as to diversify our faculty. In addition to mentorship within the Department of English, the Bridge to the Faculty Postdoctoral Research Associate will participate in a cohort-based mentoring experience through the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity, where they will have the opportunity to meet other Bridge to the Faculty Scholars.  Successful postdocs with department approval will have the opportunity to transition to faculty starting in the 2023-2024 academic year.

The UIC Program in English Education is committed to the preparation and development of English Language Arts teachers in the city of Chicago and the surrounding area at the middle and high school levels, and offers BA, MA, and PhD tracks.  We seek candidates interested in teaching a range of undergraduate English methods courses and graduate courses in the area of their specialty. We are especially interested in research focusing on a broad range of work in race/ethnicity as it pertains to literacy learning, multicultural pedagogy and literature, language diversity and equity issues.  Postdoctoral Research Associates are expected to teach one course per year and to develop an active research program.

The successful candidate will have completed their PhD in English Education (or a related field) no earlier than August 15, 2017 and no later than August 15, 2021. This is a full-time position including a competitive salary and benefits package.

To apply, please complete an on-line application including either the names and email addresses of three references or a link to a dossier service and upload a letter of application, CV, and writing sample. For fullest consideration applications should be received by January 4, 2021.  Inquiries about the position can be sent to Professor David Schaafsma at schaaf1@uic.edu or Nasser Mufti at nmufti@uic.edu.
