Job Title: Research Hourly

Reports to: Principal Investigator (Dr. Mary Jo LaDu within the LaDu Laboratory, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, College of Medicine)

Job Summary

This position focuses on the development and application of scientific techniques to address the cause of the increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease in females who carry the APOE4 gene using a novel transgenic mouse model.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and perform laboratory experiments using biochemical and cell biology approaches.
  • Test, optimize and implement both new and existing methods, procedures and techniques.
  • Assist with in vivo mouse aging and drug-treatment studies, including behavior analysis.
  • Develop, write and maintain comprehensive laboratory protocols and records of results.

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience

This position requires a bachelor's degree or above in biological science (biology, cell biology, biochemistry or bioengineering preferred) and a minimum of one-year related research experience.  Prior experience with protein analysis (FPLC, sequential extractions, Western and native gels, ELISA) immunohistochemistry, lipid analysis, or mouse husbandry is highly desirable. 

 

Working Conditions

General lab and office environments. Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity and familiarity of all software required for the maintenance, analysis and presentation of data and text pertaining to each project the applicant oversees.
