Job Summary:

The College of Nursing, Office of Academic Programs (OAP) is seeking a Medical Education Program Coordinator (Clinical Placement Coordinator) to join their team.

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Clinical Placement Coordinator develops and executes the processes needed to support the clinical teaching/learning experiences for undergraduate and select processes for graduate students within the College of Nursing. This includes placing all Chicago-based pre-licensure students at clinical sites and overseeing and ensuring compliance with clinical site requirements. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of Pre-Licensure Programs, develops, revises, and implements the evaluation of clinical practicum sites and preceptors to ensure quality teaching/learning environments and achievement of expected student outcomes across various academic programs.

Key Responsbilities/Duties:

Clinical placement management and operations

  • Directs, creates, and implements processes and guidelines for practicum placements for students each semester.
  • Coordinates clinical placements in collaboration with pre-licensure undergraduate and graduate faculty and clinical site coordinators.
  • Designs and maintains databases of clinical sites, student placements, and assigned faculty; produces and presents detailed reports.
  • Maintains clinical placement information required for CCNE accreditation and other reports or surveys as needed.
  • Manages recruitment of clinical sites, including identification of new opportunities.

 

Clinical Site Compliance

  • Per instruction from each individual clinical partner, processes and maintains documentation ensuring each student meets their compliance requirements.
  • Serves as liaison between agencies and CON students and faculty for agency-specific required training.
  • Develops and communicates compliance procedure uidelines and policy interpretation for students, faculty and staff.
  • Serves as the CON’s Access Requestor for University of Illinois Health Hospital access requests including EMR access and ID requests, and assists with troubleshooting access issues including password reset requests.
  • Reviews any changes in compliance requirements, clinical agency requirements, state or federal laws and prepares and modifies related procedures.

 

Evaluation of practicum sites and preceptors

  • Works with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Pre-Licensure Programs, and Director of DNP Program to develop, revise, and implement evaluation of practicum sites and preceptors to ensure quality teaching/learning environments and achievement of expected student outcomes across various academic programs.
  • Develop and implement a quality improvement process to provide relevant and timely feedback to faculty and clinical partners.

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. High School Graduation or equivalent
  2. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling four years (48 months), from the categories below:
    1. progressively more responsible clerical or secretarial experience, including background in electronic word processing and database management systems
    2. college course work leading to a major in medical education, education, communications, public relations or similar area of study
      • 30 semester hours equals 12 months
      • 60 semester hours equals 24 months
      • 90 semester hours equals 36 months
      • 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 48 months
  3. Work experience totaling 12 months comparable to that gained at the Medical Education Program Specialist level or similar experience within a medical education program

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, business, liberal arts, health care, or related area.
  • Master’s degree in higher education or related area preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in academic or health care setting. Experience in clinical placement process and compliance requirements for health science programs.
