The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Neuroscience. 

 Located in the heart of one of the world’s great cities, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is the city’s only Carnegie Research 1 public university. UIC is federally recognized as a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) through its status as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HIS). The Department of Biological Sciences, which resides in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has research strengths in Ecology and Evolution; Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology; and Neurobiology. The department currently has 28 tenure-line faculty and 9 non-tenure track faculty, 1800 undergraduate majors and nearly 100 graduate students. See http://bios.uic.edu/ for more information.

Neurobiology is a strength of the Department of Biological Sciences, bolstered by collaborations across the college, the UIC campus, and beyond.  The Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience (LIN) is an organization based in the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences that brings together Neuroscientists from Biological Sciences, Psychology, Philosophy, and Chemistry. The LIN plays a key role in overseeing a unique major in Neuroscience and in strengthening graduate studies in Neuroscience both in our college and in collaboration with faculty in Psychiatry, Neurology, Anatomy, etc., in the college of medicine. We share a vibrant Neuroscience community with our sister Universities in Chicago, with extramural collaborations promoted by the Chicago Biomedical Consortium.

We seek candidates who utilize molecular, genetic, imaging, electrophysiological and/or behavioral tools to tackle fundamental questions in neuroscience.  Areas of interest could include sensory neuroscience, cellular neuroscience, or developmental neuroscience. All scales of analysis and research will be considered. The Successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program. Commitment to teaching excellence in the graduate and undergraduate programs is expected.

Candidate must have a PhD degree, with postdoctoral experience and a demonstrated record of research accomplishments.
