This position is a leader to create, foster, and develop relationships that will provide a broad spectrum of opportunities for partnerships with extramural funding agencies including both federal and private foundations, medical research institutions, and medical companies. The Associate Director works closely with Department of Pharmacology leadership, funding agency, and commercial enterprises to identify financial and research working relationships. The position will have impacts on enhancing the department visibility throughout the nation to recruit potential GEMS students with stem cell research focus.

Identify and define opportunities to advance the commercialization of pharmacology research and for departmental growth, as well as potential funding opportunities but not limited to NIH STTR/SBIR grants. Travel with Department Head to funding agency sites and conduct meetings with directors of funding institutions.

Evaluate research commercialization for departmental growth, advise department faculty and manage Intellectual Property with Office of Technology and Management.

Participate in high level meetings with Department Head and Faculty Executive Committee to design strategic plans and manage operational marketing and relationships with key external funding agencies and partners to attain research portfolio expansion. Result-oriented for review on annual basis.

Facilitate and attend recruitment events and conferences nationwide to promote department medical education program to increase the number of PhD and MSTP students.

Provide effective supervision of department educational seminar series for NIH T32 training grant, identify potential speakers with Department Head and faculty, meet with speakers on potential collaborations.

Oversee department website and social media profiles and presence. Design and create quarterly newsletters and regular email contents, highlighting department research achievements for the purpose of department awareness, publicity for fundraising and recruitment.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned

A Master’s degree in Business Administration, communications, marketing, Business Law, or related field.
A minimum of five years of professional level experience in corporate or not-for-profit public relations or communication services.
Knowledge and experience of research funding proposals with NIH and/or private agencies.
Proficient with Microsoft Suite
Advanced knowledge of research protocols working with NIH, DOD, AHA, and other funding agencies.
Ability to travel to meetings and conferences nationwide, attend recruitment events.
