This position is responsible for designing, conducting and managing research in the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy’s (IRRPP) priority areas; initiating and supervising new scholarly & research projects; strategic planning and development of new research programs. Act on behalf of the Director, IRRPP, as directed, to implement strategic priorities in an efficient and effective manner

Lead IRRPP research agenda
o Develop intellectual agenda for IRRPP research program.
o Design, conduct, and coordinate research on IRRPP initiatives “core priority areas,” etc.
o Analyze findings, write research reports, and present research findings to public audiences, policymakers, scholarly audiences and funders.
o Pursue external funding for IRRPP research including developing relationships with funders, writing grants and coordinating applications with grants and contracts staff people.
o Develop & promote relationships with peer research organizations in mutually beneficial ways.
 
Support IRRPP Faculty Fellows research agendas
o Meet with faculty fellows to provide scholarly support for research.
o Coordinate dissemination of IRRPP & faculty fellow research in ways that impact local, state, and national policy.
 
Advancement

o Meet with external constituencies to promote and advance institute priorities.

o Develop & manage relationships with potential funders and donors.

In coordination with Director, create and implement new IRRPP External Advisory Board

o Develop relationships with potential board members including public officials, scholars, and funders.
o Plan and coordinate External Advisory Board meetings
 
Represent IRRPP at campus and non-campus meetings
 
Maintain continuing professional education and certifications appropriate to the position.
 
Plan, assign, and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met.  Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet institute objectives.
 
Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
 
 
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies, Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, Public Policy or Public Health with a focus on Racial/Ethnic dynamics required; PhD preferred. 
 
Relevant experience in research-based organizations; preferably in either university, foundation, or nonprofit or civic organization. 
 
Experience in research on race and public policy, or related field. 
 
Strong writing and communication skills; ability to supervise staff; plan and manage budgets.
 
Demonstrated ability in social and/or behavioral sciences research.  
 
Position may be held in conjunction with a faculty appointment. 
 
Familiarity with staff supervision and knowledge of administrative concepts and methods..

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent, emotionally intelligent customer service.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.

Experience with database management and/or graphic design preferred.

Understanding the principles familiarity, and/or interest in racial/social justice issues and acting with integrity and empathy when engaging with others preferred.

Ability to work effectively with staff, other university departments/units, the public and outside constituency groups.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

Ability to organize and multi-task.

Exercises judgment in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems.
