Visiting Research Associate II Pain Coping Skills Training (Coach) Hemodialysis Opioid Prescription Effort - Department of Medicine, Div of Nephrology (Job ID #133750)

This position implements the primary intervention of the Hemodialysis Opioid Prescription Effort (HOPE) research protocol, which is to deliver a telehealth-based pain coping skills training to adults with end-stage kidney disease receiving maintenance hemodialysis.  This intervention is structured and based on cognitive and behavioral principles and its goal is to reduce pain and opioid use in these adult patients. As part of the study, the Pain Coping Skills Training (PCST) coach will work with maintenance hemodialysis patients who are in chronic pain at various study sites, across the country. The PCST coach will receive specialized and manual-based training and will additionally receive ongoing weekly supervision and oversight by experts in the field of pain coping skills. He/she will be required to conduct research related participant visits according to the specifications in the manual of procedures. The PCST coach will also be required to facilitate activities with other HOPE Study investigators and research personnel. 

• Conduct PCST intervention as outlined in the protocol at the clinical research center:
o Utilize telehealth to deliver PCST intervention and collect research data
o Coordinate research activities among clinical research centers in order to insure accurate and timely flow of data and immediate notification in the event of abnormal clinical findings.
• Participate on the Quality Control central study committee responsible for the accuracy and completeness of study data.
• Execute informed consent process and monitor patient status
• Ensure that patient enrollment and PCST intervention comply with the established protocols, regulatory and monitoring agency standards, and grant sponsor guidelines.
• Oversee the maintenance of study telehealth equipment and maintain records of equipment maintenance.
• Attend and participate in study-related training and steering committee meetings
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
 
 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required.
A minimum of one year related research experience.
Knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
 
Master’s level mental health provider (social work, psychology, counseling)
A minimum of 3 years of experience post-Master’s degree
Ability to manage multiple tasks. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Requires excellent communication, organization, presentation and computer/pc skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other related software.
Familiarity with using telehealth applications (WebEx, BlueJeans, Zoom, FaceTime, etc.)
Willingness to assist with other study-related tasks as needed.
Experience working with chronic medical conditions is preferred.
 
Highly desirable – fluent in Spanish
