The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) seeks Clinical Geneticist candidates for multiple positions who are board certified in pediatrics and qualify for certification or are certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics.  They must also have an MD, DO degree or foreign equivalent and hold an Illinois physician’s license or be eligible to obtain Illinois licensure.  The primary clinical responsibilities include provision of outpatient dysmorphology/clinical genetic evaluations, and inpatient genetic consultations. Other responsibilities include teaching medical students and residents in the department; organize and conduct research programs; and perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development and administration.   The program currently consists of a Clinical Biochemical Geneticist who provides monthly clinics and two genetic counselors.

The primary teaching hospital of the UICOMP is the OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI), a tertiary care facility serving a 37 county region with a population base of over two million.  CHOI provides comprehensive services to children, including Level IV NICU and a state-designated Pediatric Critical Care Center.  CHOI is a major medical facility with 144 beds and a 32-bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago. The Jump Trading Simulation Education Center, a state of the art simulation facility with over 40,000 square feet of space for faculty and other resources, is a joint venture between UICOMP and CHOI and is located on the OSF campus.

Malpractice insurance is provided by the University of Illinois system and an excellent benefits package is available including vacations, sick time, CME, health and life insurance and retirement plan.

  1. Provide outpatient diagnostic and management services for patients in the region with genetic disorders or undergoing genetic testing and provide inpatient consultation for children with inherited disorders or dysmorphologies. Coordinate the efforts of related professionals to assure continuous availability of services.  Monitor and take steps to enhance the quality of genetic services delivered at UICOMP Department of Pediatrics and UICOMP’s main clinical partner, Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
  2. Develop and work on educational programs and activities for medical students and residents in relation to clinical genetics. 
  3. Maintain a spirit of inquiry and scholarship in the activities of the genetic service.
  4. Perform administrative duties and University service as assigned.
  5. Some travel may be required between healthcare facilities.
