The College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago is continuously seeking several full-time; reliable, detailed oriented and customer service oriented Central Supply Sterilization Technicians (Dental Sterilization Techs) who enjoy standing on their feet all day, work in a fast-paced environment, and thrive in a diverse, clinical/teaching environment.  Dental Sterilization Technicians perform all duties associated with the sterilization process and dispensing of dental instruments, supplies and equipment used by the dental students and staff at the College of Dentistry.   Rate of pay is $15.67/hour; certified sterile technician rate is $16.15/hour.

• Responsible for maintaining instruments, equipment and materials used by students and staff.  Includes sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments as required;
• Responsible for dispensing and collecting contaminated dental instruments, equipment and materials;
• Maintain cleanliness and condition of equipment used in the sterilization and disinfection of dental instruments;
• Reports defective materials or equipment to appropriate supervisors or staff
• Maintain stock of supplies needed to properly run the sterilizing, dispensing and pre-patient care areas;
• Checks supplies to ensure they are not expired;
• Maintain storage rooms in a neat and orderly manner in keeping with the highest standards of sanitation;
• Maintains and distributes adequate supply of dental equipment and supplies for all clinical areas;
• Collects information, keeps records and prepares reports as required using computerized inventory;
• Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

 1. High school graduation or equivalent/GED

2. One (1) year (12 months) of experience in a medical, health care, or laboratory setting or a closely related using sterile procedures

OR

Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) (MUST upload copy of certification)

Preferred Qualifications


• Knowledge of dental instrumentation, procedures and dental materials
• At least 1 year experience working in a clinical dental setting
• Experience operating sterilizing machines and thermal disinfectors
• Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control procedures
• Basic computer skills
