Job Summary:

UI Health is seeking a Quality Specialist to provide support through data management and database registries for Clinical Services team(s).  Knowledge of cardiovascular database and registries experience along with previous experience as a Registered Nurse is needed.

The position coordinates all the data management and database registries for the Clinical Services team(s). An employee is responsible for the Cardiovascular Disease Continuous Quality Improvement via consultation, data management and quality advisor functions. The Quality Specialist develops and implements improvement plans at the Clinical Service level based on review and analysis of complex data provided by the staff, as well as from additional sources, including qualitative surveys, quantitative audits and evidence-based best practices and literature reviews.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • To have a significant and detailed understanding of all relevant all Cardiovascular Disease registries, their uses, impacts on payment mechanisms and market place recognitions.
  • Gather data and manage national registry databases for Neuroscience and Cardiovascular Disease and other departments to ensure complete and accurate submissions.
  • Abstracts data from health records, reconciles data inconsistencies, defines criteria to locate and retrieve accurate information
  • Performs entry of clinical data into one or more electronic system(s)
  • Coordinates and integrates efforts among team members within the department as well as multiple other departments and external agencies and vendors
  • Assists in analysis of data sets/reports, including interpretation of statistical trends and patterns of variation and implications for improvement initiatives
  • Observes clinical and operational workflow practices to identify gaps in performance deviating from best practices, utilizing appropriate QI tools. Develops plans to address gaps and create improvement.
  • Coordinate the Quality Improvement initiatives of the Neurosurgical department
  • Educates staff regarding national quality measure standards and algorithms to improve performance. Collaborates with clinicians, health system administrators/staff to design workflows which promote best practices.
  • Prepares periodic progress reports to leadership and, identifies barriers, develops action plans and issues requiring escalation for resolution.
  • Participates in the design of audits to measure compliance of clinical practice/operation to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in education/training of individuals or teams on data analysis and interpretation
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field or business required (Registered Nurse preferred)
  2. One (1) year (12 months) of Quality Improvement work experience in a clinical or healthcare related field

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodology and tools Knowledge of data collection methodology
  • Knowledge of basic statistical process control components Knowledge of benchmarking tools and best practices Problem-solving and team facilitation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Project management and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to learn and utilize new software applications for data entry and reporting
  • Ability to train, present to small and large groups
  • Ability to act as a consultant to clinicians and non-clinicians
  • A positive attitude.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work together and well with other team members.
  • Ability work well under stressful situations.
