This position is located at the Rockford campus which is 90 miles northwest of the Chicago campus.

The University of Illinois Rockford is seeking a full-time registered nurse for a 2pm - 10:30 PM shift 5 days per week including every other weekend.  Shift differential eligible.  This positions is part of our patient care team providing clinical services at the Winnebago County Justice Center and is responsible for participating in skilled patient care of inmates in a Department of Corrections environment.

  1. Utilize the nursing process by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s care.
  2. Assess the patient, collect and document the patient’s current health status and medical history.  Make accurate and ongoing assessment of patient’s status and respond appropriately.
  3. Plan/Implement; set priorities for nursing action in a logical sequence according to patient’s needs and formulate a plan of care by the appropriate selection of Nurse Practice Standards.
  4. Evaluate; perform ongoing assessment and revise plan of care based on new date and patient’s condition.
  5. Document accurate and ongoing assessment of patient status.
  6. Communicate with the medical provider regarding patient needs, the nursing assessments and recommendations on a daily basis.
  7. Collaborate with other nurses and health team members to ensure the patient’s well-being.
  8. Teach patient appropriate health information in a timely manner.
  9. Administer medications and IV’s according to policy and procedure.
  10. Observe and document patient’s response to pertinent medications.
  11. Demonstrate ability and appropriate technical skills when administering treatments and procedures in accordance with provider’s orders and policy and procedure.
  12. Demonstrate necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to policy and procedure.
  13. Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned. 

1.  Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.

2.  One year of nursing experience comparable to that gained as a Staff Nurse I
