A Research Specialist position is available in the Lavie lab with Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Illinois at Chicago /College of Medicine. The Research Specialist will use molecular biology & protein chemistry techniques to generate expression vectors, and carry out the expression and purification of the proteins in either bacterial or mammalian expression systems. Job duties: Formulate and conduct scientific experiments and analyses; perform complex data collection and laboratory techniques, analyze and evaluate test and research results. Also, use molecular biology techniques such as PCR to generate protein expression vectors for use both in E. coli and mammalian expression systems. Express and purify proteins and determine quality by SDS-PAGE and kinetic assays. Lab management. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in basic science and a minimum of 3 years related research experience required.
