The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), College of Medicine, is recruiting a Section Chief for the Division of Neurology. This position requires interpersonal skills to work in a well-established group, and will join two other full-time Pediatric Neurologists. This Section Chief will provide leadership and strategic direction for the clinical, research, and academic activities of the Pediatric Neurology division within the Department of Pediatrics and lead academic, clinical and research activities of the pediatric neurology division and its faculty and staff. In addition, this position will develop and supervise clinical programs serving inpatients and outpatients at UIC hospital and affiliated clinical sites and participate and supervise division faculty participation in medical student, resident and other health professional education. The Division is actively engaged in teaching residents, students, and fellows and other health professional students.  This position will work actively with the Department of Neurology and affiliated service locations.

 

UIC Health includes a 98-bed, designated Children’s Hospital, including a State certified Pediatric Critical Care Center (PCCC), a Level III NICU (the highest care designation awarded by Illinois) and a Pediatric Emergency Room.  UIC Pediatrics has more than 85 full-time faculty, and we provide more than 42,000+ outpatient visits annually for primary care and 16 pediatric subspecialties.  UIC has a focus on the needs of underserved populations and provides extensive community outreach initiatives throughout the greater Chicago area. The department and College of Medicine have significant infrastructure to support work in basic sciences, clinical trials and outcomes research. The Children’s Hospital at the University of Illinois also provides coverage at the nearby Mt. Sinai Hospital.

  • In partnership with the Head of the Department, develop a comprehensive strategy and plan for the growth and development of the division’s clinical, educational and research programs.
  •  In partnership with the Department’s Director of Business Operations, manage and oversee the Administrative, Finance, Research, and Clinical operations for the division. 
  • Promote and support the development of multidisciplinary services with the division.
  •  Develop division’s faculty with emphasis on quality, effectiveness and efficiency. 
  • Participate in the clinical service initiatives of the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System while complementing and expanding clinical and research programs and/or develop novel clinical translational approaches in clinical practice.
  • Supervise and interpret EEG readings.
  • Promote service and investigation related to underserved populations. 
  • Participate in the direct supervision and training of faculty, residents, and fellows. 
  • Lead the clinical, scholarly, education, and service missions of the division.
  • Terminal degree required, Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an ACGME accredited medical college or equivalent medical degree with specialty training in pediatric neurology.
  • Must have or be eligible for Unrestricted State of Illinois Physician/Surgeon License or eligible to obtain upon offer.
  • Board certification in Pediatric Neurology required.
  • Education and experience appropriate for appointment in the College of Medicine at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in either tenure or non-tenure track position. 
  • Prior experience in an administrative position preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills necessary to complement and expand a basic science and/or clinical translational research program.
  • Excellent clinical skills for inpatient and outpatient care
  • Demonstrated excellence in scholarship, education, clinical practice, and leadership skills.
