The Learning Sciences Research Institute at UIC solicits applications for a two-year postdoctoral research associate position, starting January 2019. The position is associated with a project on Building Inclusive Excellence in STEM at UIC recently funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Among the project’s activities is development and implementation of a Professional Development Program and creation of a Professional Learning Community to promote the design and implementation of culturally relevant and inclusive STEM learning environments with a particular focus on gateway experiences in the Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Physics.

The successful candidate will work with the project’s leadership team, including Drs. Pellegrino and Stieff from the Learning Sciences Research Institute, and other campus leaders in STEM education to develop protocols and methods to determine the impact and efficacy of implemented programs. This will include ways to support and monitor changes in faculty instructional practices and assess the impact on student learning outcomes as well as student and faculty perceptions of campus climate relative to issues of inclusiveness.

 

Applicants with training and experience in the Learning Sciences, especially those with a focus on multicultural STEM teaching and learning at the secondary or post-secondary level, will be preferred. All work toward the Ph.D. must be completed before the starting date.

The position is anticipated to be for two years with the possibility of extension beyond the initial appointment. The salary will be competitive.
