This position serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Lead Investigator in cases involving complaints of discrimination and harassment based on protected classes and sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, and gender-related violence, including stalking and intimate partner violence. This role involves managing the responsibilities associated with conducting investigations of discrimination and harassment claims and sexual misconduct incidents, in close collaboration with the Title IX Coordinator, and supervising Title IX and Equity Compliance Specialists.

• Daily supervision and management of Title IX and Equity Compliance Specialists of internal and external of charges that may be in violation of the University Nondiscrimination Statement, Prohibition of Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment and Other Sexual Misconduct, Prohibition of Retaliation following claims of Unlawful Discrimination, and related policies.

• Provide training related to nondiscrimination, sexual misconduct, and related University policies.

• Act as a neutral party in the investigation and provide detailed unbiased reports regarding the evidence of the investigation.

• Conduct a neutral, prompt, fair, and thorough investigation advising parties of their rights and maintaining a high level of confidentiality during all proceedings

• Ensure a well-documented investigative process per UIC policies and procedures

• Maintain accurate and thorough records and notes of the investigatory process.

• Provide procedural updates to parties in an investigation.

• Create comprehensive written investigative reports for OAE that identifies the issues investigated, summarizes the evidence, and makes findings or recommendations under University policy.

• Provide periodic, timely updates regarding the status of investigations to the Director of OAE and Title IX Coordinator.

• Consult with the Title IX Coordinator to regularly monitor and manage Title IX and identify and address any systemic problems to ensure an efficient and effective response to reports and complaints.

• Assist in informal resolution processes, where applicable, related to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation claims.

• Act independently with initiative and sound judgment in managing reported incidents filed in OAE and respond in a timely manner.

• Build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the institution; work with other University stakeholders to ensure nondiscrimination policies are communicated to all constituents.

• Assist the Director of OAE and Title IX Coordinator on the development and implementation of comprehensive University Title IX programming for students, faculty, and staff.

• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Masters Degree required, JD or Ph.D preferred.

Extensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws related to Title IX, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

Minimum of three years experience EEO compliance required. Five or more years experience or experience in higher education is preferred.

Two years supervisory experience over EEO investigations.

Demonstrated experience of successfully overseeing, investigating, and handling sexual misconduct complaints.

Advanced written and verbal communications skills to work with all levels of the organization. Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated effective human relations and communication skills.
