The University System Office seeks a Payroll Specialist II to provide service to university customers regarding employee's pay, timesheets, calculating paychecks, taxation, adjustments, insurance and retirement. This requires comprehensive knowledge about UPB Customer Service operations and the ability to interpret complex language and provisions. Ensure assigned areas of responsibility are conducted in compliance with applicable federal, state and University guidelines and regulations.  This position allows for a hybrid working schedule.

  • Act as liaison to the campus for University Payroll & Benefits (UPB). Research and respond to unit and employees in regard to payroll questions and issues related to payroll transactions, adjustments, retro pay, payroll check cancellations, reissues, check distribution, W2s, reissued tax forms, employment verifications, voluntary/involuntary withholdings, death benefits, terminal benefits and other UPB related questions. (40%)
  • Review, process, interpret, and maintain proper documentation and authorization forms for additions, changes, or deletions to the Banner Payroll interface and CMS / Ariel system. Trouble shoot questions from employees and unit HR Payroll representatives to determine best method of resolving issues. Work within other UPB units to ensure issues are resolved in an efficient and timely manner. (30%)
  • Provide counseling services/information to University customers regarding insurance, retirement and voluntary benefits programs to resolve complex benefit issues. (15%)
  • Review changes to employee information including but not limited to Direct Deposit, W2 addresses and paper earnings statements. Process changes in Banner when appropriate. (10%)
  • Assist employees with navigating System Human Resources Services site (My UI Info) for information and submitting enrollments/changes (3%)
  • Other duties as assigned appropriate for the Payroll Specialist II classification. (2%)

 

Minimum Qualifictions:

  1. Possession of credential requirements listed for the Payroll Specialist I (Level II) https://www.sucss.illinois.gov/pages/classspec/ViewSeries.aspx?tblCS_SeriesID=130.
  2. One year of work experience performing duties comparable to those listed in the Payroll Specialist I;

 

Or  One year of vocational training in a related business curriculum (such as accounting, business administration, finance, economics, or management sciences);

Or 6 semester hours in a related business curriculum (such as accounting, business administration, finance, economics, or management sciences);

Or 15 semester hours in any field;

Or Any combination of the above totaling one year.
