The successful candidate for Harriet H. Werley Chair and Professor will be an outstanding nurse researcher who is engaged in the highest level of scholarship, demonstrates a strong record of mentorship, and exemplifies a commitment to diversity. The Werley Chair will inspire others to pursue research and actively participate in nursing research development at UIC. Working with the Associate Dean for Research, the Chair holder will also be responsible for participating in mock grant application reviews, mentoring, and serving as a resource in grantsmanship for the faculty.  The Chair holder will advance their own research and scholarship activities, demonstrate how contributions to nursing research can impact health care as a whole, and mentor faculty and students in their research endeavors.

This is an administrative scholar position with faculty appointment commensurate with the rank of Full Professor*.

1) Maintain a high level of federal research grant funding for own research (at least one NIH R-01 type grant)

2) Mentor College of Nursing faculty and student research endeavors, along with the Associate Dean for Research and Department Heads

3) Facilitate the development of CON Research Centers and research interest groups as well as provide leadership for a Research Center in candidate area of research expertise

4) Participate in mock reviews of faculty grant applications

5) Promote the advancement of research knowledge  and the translation of research results into practice

6) Engage with the research community to advance the research mission of the UIC CON locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally

 

 

 

 


 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                             

An earned doctorate and eligibility for the academic rank of Full Professor with indefinite tenure

*Rank of appointment to be commensurate with norms and criteria for faculty appointments within the UIC College of Nursing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Portfolio that demonstrates a strong  record of leadership experience in the areas of faculty development, grant submission, research management, and shared governance, in a research-intensive university.  We strongly encourage faculty from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds to apply.

Demonstrated experience in the successful mentorship of nursing students and junior faculty. Experience mentoring traditionally underrepresented students and faculty strongly preferred.
