The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the Dean’s Office.

Reporting to the Dean, and as a member of the Dean’s leadership team, the Associate Dean is responsible for all matters related to faculty affairs and, in addition, advises the Dean on all important matters facing the College. The position serves as the College’s liaison to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, the College’s Executive Committee, and is the main point of contact for Unit Executive Officers on issues related to any aspect of faculty life. Overall, this position is central to ensuring the successful professional lives of fellow faculty members in that it is concerned with the establishment and execution of fair policies and seeks to create an atmosphere which is supportive of faculty members and their endeavors. The responsibilities include providing oversight of the faculty promotion and tenure process in the College, faculty mentoring, faculty leaves, faculty conduct and evaluation, and conflict resolution. The associate dean is also expected to provide leadership in matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs serves as a member of the Dean’s management team of close advisors. In this role, the Associate Dean is responsible for all matters related to faculty affairs serving as the College’s liaison to Faculty Affairs and as the main point of contact for unit executive officers on issues related to faculty promotion and tenure, faculty conduct and evaluation, and conflict resolution. Included in that role are efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In addition, the Associate Dean may be assigned to other duties by the Dean as needed such as the oversight and management of senior faculty or administrative searches or serving on campus committees

Full professor with tenure in one of the departments/programs within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as job responsibilities pertain to all faculty ranks within the college.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as interpersonal skills including tact, sensitivity, discretion in handling confidential personnel matters, and diplomacy.
