The Department of Medical Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, invites applicants to apply for an open-rank tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty positions for the Director of the Hispanic Center of Excellence.  This faculty position with administrative duties is expected to involve 40-50% of the successful candidate's full-time effort, with the nature and structure of the complete appointment to be determined by agreement of the candidate and College of Medicine.

The Director of the Hispanic Center of Excellence (HCOE) provides leadership and oversight for the Center. The Director is responsible for the administration and execution of HCOE policies, programs, finances, and operations. The Director will facilitate a research environment which aims to train and aid College of Medicine faculty to identify, recruit, retain, and graduate Latinos in the health professions, and to expand educational opportunities for populations at the pre-college (K-12), undergraduate, and professional levels.

This positions carries responsibilities in research, teaching, administration, and service in medical or health professions education for applicants at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level.  This individual will provide leadership, direction, and overall management of the Hispanic Center of Excellence.  This individual will actively engage federal, state, and local officials in public policy development and civic discourse on the future of health sciences careers and opportunities for Latino students.  The Director will serve as liaison to university colleges, departments, campus offices and external public and private organizations regarding HCOE programs and funding.

 

DEPARMENT OF MEDICAL EDUCATION. The Department of Medical Education (DME) at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine is the oldest continuously operating department of medical education in the world, with a strong commitment to scholarship and leadership in the field. The work of DME faculty involves instruction, research, and service in the fields of health professions education, humanities, healthcare ethics, and Latino career development and support though the Hispanic Center for Excellence. Its core instructional efforts involve students in programs leading to the Ph.D., M.H.P.E. (Masters of Health Professions Education), M.P.S.L. (Masters of Patient Safety Leadership) and M.D. In the area of health professions education, the department engages in research, teaching, and service in such areas as curriculum design; program evaluation; instructional methods; assessment, measurement, and psychometrics; and others.
