The University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics (UI Health) is seeking a Director, Patient Care Services- Operating Room to join their team. This is a leadership position that provides direct/indirect strategic and operational oversight, budgetary stewardship ensures quality care within each surgical service, increases patient throughput efficiencies and programmatic growth. Responsible for directing and managing daily operations of the Operating Room, throughput, physician alignment, ongoing physician relations with respects to surgical services (programs) that collaborate with UIHealth, manage surgical program costs and improve efficiencies in care delivery. Oversees large annual operating budget. Manages Service Line Coordinators, OR Nursing, Surgical Technicians, Nurse Technicians and Clerical Staff at UI Health.

Provide administrative leadership along with consultation to all programmatic operations and outcomes with respect to the following:

Quality and Safety:

  • Is responsible for nursing practice, education and research oversight whereby assure safe, reliable and efficient care delivery that is based on evidenced based practice where available.
  • Hospital / OCC Operations: Complimentary consultation / oversight with hospital leadership and OCC & OSC leadership. Serve as a facilitator/ committee member for all relevant Value Analysis Teams specific to surgical services.
  • Enhance value in all surgical services by increasing quality, constructing cost effective care delivery models and improve operational efficiencies. Engage with physicians at all levels,within the COM, and its departments, to align with hospital administrative national benchmarks and standards.
  • Provide clinical service (program)leadership for improving all relevant quality (example:NSQIP),finance and operational system level committees.
  • Align with UI Health quality initiatives in order to assimilate quality goals and targets for each surgical service.
  • Align with the COM and CON clinical departments and health science colleges in order to improve and sustain quality clinical programs.
  • Define performance and practicestandards fornursing services frompre-admission to discharge.
  • Initiate processes to improve patient care (such as improving SSI, CAUTI and CLABSI). Develop policies, work practices and procedures with University-wide impact (policy on anesthesia,pain management, etc.) and facilitate their implementation on campus.
  • Works collaboratively to monitor compliance standards for state and federal regulations and accreditation and facilitates interdisciplinary communication.

Financial Stability:

  • Budgetary oversight and serve as the operations leader for all assigned clinical and operational programs. Identify any and all variances and develop a plan of correction as needed. Provide relevant solutions and tactics to achieve success through operational and financial challenges.
  • Implement critical budgetary strategies designed to achieve maximum utilization and efficiency. Plan, develop and oversee large budget for the department. Balance, analyze historical data, determine trends, and forecast revenues.

Growth:

  • Identify surgical services and facilitate UI Health marketing in order to portray UI Health Excellence in clinical care.
  • Strong focus on patient flow in order to improve quality, patient experience and organizational capacity / growth.

Patient and Family – Best Customer Experience:

  • Monitor patient and employee satisfaction and develops/supports initiatives to improve perceptions of care.

Best People / Leadership:

  • Direct responsibility for performance reviews of leadership and staff.
  • Identify and develop top talent to meet the business and quality needs of ourpatients and organization.
  • Develop and implement health care delivery model at UIC which promotes high patient/staff satisfaction levels and optimal patient care outcomes
  • Direct practice of nursing and play a critical role in developing and supporting the strategic direction of the Medical Center and the organization's operational plan by monitoring, evaluating and improving the quality of patient care.
  • Plan, implement and assess nursing services under scope of State's Nurse Practice Act of Registered Nurse licensure. Investigate clinical data (such as mortality rate, etc.), analyze trends to increase department productivity and to maximize nursing staff strengths and abilities.
  • Plan and utilize nursing resources and timely and appropriate care interventions. Monitor sign in and competency sheets. Determine if staffing resources are balanced appropriately and adherent to national, federal and state safety and quality standards of patient care.
  • Ensure clinical staff competences. Monitor staff competencies related to infection control,fire, and disaster and safety standards.

Operational Effectiveness:

  • Align with physician leaders to provide administrative leadership to grant, clinical and operations based programs associated with assigned services.
  • Identify regional and national program benchmarks for clinical service growth in reputation and volume, integrate relevant metrics into clinical services and executes strategies to meet benchmark targets.

Technology:

  • Establish and build relationships with vendors in conjunction with organizational leadership. Complete vendor evaluation forms based on pricing and quality of the contractual agreement, as well as ease of use and training offered to determinethe best and most cost-efficient vendor.
  • Leverages cutting edge technology / EHR to support people and develops core processes that are evidenced based where available Perform other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Illinois RN license required.
  • Bachelors and or Master of Science Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master Degree Required, DNP or PhD Preferred.
  • Five (5) years of healthcare supervisory level leadership experience required in the Operating Room.
  • Previous demonstrated experience with Healthcare operations with a successful track record required.
