Days
  • Prepares the procedure room and instruments for all endoscopic procedures, including: EGD’s, colonoscopies, EUS’s, ERCP’s, Bronchoscopies, and bedside procedures.
  • Provides patient support and education, as needed, throughout the procedure process.
  • Assists the physician during all types of endoscopic procedures as assigned by the charge nurse.
  • Completes forms according to GI Endoscopy Lab and UI Health guidelines.
  • Enters electronic procedure documentation according to GI Endoscopy Lab and UI Health guidelines.
  • Processes all lab specimens following GI Endoscopy Lab and UI Health guidelines.
  • Follows established guidelines for the cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of endoscopes, bronchoscopes, and reusable equipment.
  • Restocks endoscopy and bronchoscopy rooms, and bedside-procedure carts, for safe and efficient use.
  • Maintains endoscopic and bronchoscopy equipment in excellent condition. Notifies charge nurse or nurse manager of any equipment failure or ordering needs.
  • Assists in the prep-recovery area as needed, including patient care and restocking of patient care areas and nursing station.
  • Assumes responsibility for their own professional growth.
  • Assists with quality assurance data collection and review related to endoscopy procedures.
  • Provides documentation to facilitate proper patient billing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Identifies recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems and participates in problem solving and resolution.

 

Education/Research

 

  • Collaborates with other staff to identify, promote and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students
  • Serves as a resource to other nursing staff and students
  • Accesses Medical Center intranet/outlook for relevant communication and to review and interpret changes in policy, procedure and other information pertinent to practice
  • Supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted on the unit and at UI Health.
  • Takes responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates strategies to meet such needs.

 

Reporting Structure

 

  • This person works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) who provides direction and supervision on a continual basis. The Director/Manager/CNCII, acting as coach and mentor, provides additional direction, guidance, and feedback regarding practice and performance. The employee’s performance is evaluated annually in writing and more frequently if needed. The employee and Director/Manager meet

 

CNA regsitry on IDPH required. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work histoy required.
