Job Summary

The University of Illinois UI Health Neurology department is seeking a (EEG) Electroencephalographic Specialist. This position provides key technologic leadership for the Department of Encephalography.  Under general supervision from higher level personnel, instructs lower level staff in techniques used in EEG and performs complex technical duties. Recognized by staff for expert level knowledge of technologic procedures, equipment, and support systems.  Communicates appropriately with attending and referring physicians, residents, patients and support staff to accomplish a variety of related tasks.  Performs all tasks consistent with the principals of sound ethical behavior and judgment, maintains confidentiality concerning patient issues.

 

 

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision from higher level personnel, instructs lower level staff in techniques used in electroencephalography.
  • Instructs and demonstrates for lower level technicians and trainees the methods and techniques to be used in performing EEG examinations.
  • Performs routine EEG procedures and independently determines if localization studies and needed.
  • Participates in complex studies including WADA tests and BOT.
  • Completes maintenance requisitions in cases of EEG equipment malfunction.
  • Answers inquiries from outside hospitals or clinics regarding EEG procedures.
  • Communicates with staff and patients regarding preliminary reports, instructions and appointments.
  • Adheres and complies with all regulatory authorities, including, but not limited to JCAHO, IDPH, and OSHA.
  • Contributes to monthly budget with higher level personnel.
  • Interacts with external peer organization, vendors, clients and service organizations.
  • Attends Departmental meetings.
  • Facilitates Departmental QI projects with higher level personnel.
  • Performs duties at lower level.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

  
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required 

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an accredited training program in electroencephalographic techniques
  • Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months), from the categories below:
    • Clinical EEG work experience performing duties comparable to those listed at the lower level of this series
    • EEG registry exam certified - American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potentials Technologist (ABRET)


     *Note: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of experience.

                              CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

  • Ability to supervise the work of EEG trainees
  • Ability to instruct EEG Technicians and trainees
  • Ability to perform difficult technical procedures
