Job Summary:

UI Health is seeking an experienced Business Administrative Associate (Financial Analyst & Benchmarking Coordinator) to join the Hospital Finance team.  

This position supports University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics (UIH) operations and strategic initiatives through business planning and financial analysis. Collaborates with UIH leadership and departments to identify revenue enhancement opportunities using internal data and external resources. Participates in development of long-term financial plans for UIH.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

Creates/runs Business Intelligence (BI) Reports for month-end EPIC A/R valuation.  Data points include all metrics needed to do an accurate estimation of net reimbursement for each payer based on the payment methodology & rates in effect at the time services are provided.  Works with individual(s) in Patient Accounts to determine the collectability of accounts when collectivity is in question due to the age of the account or other factors.

Runs (EPIC) Payment Variance Reports to validate the accuracy of HB Contract calculations & of actual payments received.  Questions variances & follows up as required to achieve resolution.  Runs “high-dollar” report for dissemination & review.

Participates in the accounting for the “Cares Act” related costs.

Creates/runs monthly BI Reports for inpatient zero-balance accounts.  Maintains excel logs for major payers that include independent calculations of expected reimbursement & comparison to actual payments received at an account level.  Maintains Blue Cross Experience Report file.  These files supplement the EPIC Payment Variance Report, aid in the maintenance of EPIC Contracts, and are integral to budgeting & rate analysis.

Participates in the preparation of Annual Revenue Budget & Revenues for the 5-Year Plan.

Supports performance improvement efforts by providing financial analysis of net revenue for services and related costs.  Compiles and analyzes data from internal and external sources.

Serves as an internal Finance resource to UIH departments in budgeting, net revenue analysis, and revenue cycle improvement efforts.

Develops reporting tools in support of strategic initiatives by leveraging technology and automated solutions (EPIC, Business Objects, MS Office products, etc).

Develops and maintains effective working relationships with UIH leadership and staff.

Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, management or a field related to the position
  2. Two years of professional level accounting, managerial and/or business experience, one year of which was at an administrative level
  3. Demonstrated experience in Health Care Finance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic medical center or large hospital preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of health care revenue cycle principles, practices and reimbursement methodology.
  • Knowledge and experience in healthcare financial analysis.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a field related to the position (Healthcare Administration or Healthcare Financial Management) preferred; Healthcare Financial Management Association certification preferred.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Decision making ability. Ability to work effectively with leadership and staff.
  • Experience with hospital and physician reimbursement arrangements, decision support software, Excel, Access, and Microsoft Office experience. 
  • Ability to make independent decisions and have effective presentation skills.
