Job Summary:

UI Health is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist (Outpatient Orthopedic & Hand Therapy) to join the Occupational Therapy team.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience with Orthopedic and Hand Therapies, including complex splinting for surgical cases.

The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for the provision of occupational therapy services within her or his individual scope of clinical competence including: assessment and evaluation of factors that influence occupational performance; formulating conclusions regarding the patient/client needs and priorities to develop a patient/client centered intervention plan; and selecting and implementing evidence based interventions to support participation in areas of occupation. The OT is also responsible for upholding professional standards and promoting quality in practice.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Performs the duties of a professional Occupational Therapist for an assigned caseload with emphasis on providing comprehensive care.
  • Direct Patient Care time (actual time with patients, may vary from scheduled) - includes all direct interventions and patient education that is integrated as a part of treatment session.
  • Indirect Patient Care (IPC) - time spent in chart review, documentation (direct patient care documentation as well as any other documentation related to patient care), scheduling, attending team or family meetings and rounds (documented as clinic time), ordering equipment, assisting other staff.
  • Academic and Clinical Teaching for students and student clinicians.
  • Responsible for administrative tasks related to the patient care services they provide and required for regulatory and organizational compliance.  This includes daily sheets, case presentations, staff meetings, block meetings, committee meetings, giving inservices.
  • The OT shares their occupational therapy expertise and participate in the development of the role of occupational therapy throughout the health system and within the community.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required: 

  1. Licensure or Eligibility for licensure as a registered occupational therapist by the State of Illinois under the condition that they have been issued a letter of authorization from the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) allowing them to practice under supervision.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of (3) three years of  professional experience with Orthopedic and Hand Therapies including complex splinting for surgical cases.
  • Certified Hand Theapist (CHT) Certification

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of techniques and procedures used in occupational therapy
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treating of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Skill monitoring/assessing the performance of patients to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Ability to plan and implement therapy
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the preparation of case reports
  • Supervisory ability
  • Ability to be socially perceptive, being aware of other’s reactions and understanding why they react as they do
