Four (4) Positions Available

The Transporter I is responsible for the safe transportation and delivery of patients, Lab specimens and requisitions. The Transporter I is required to interact with
patients, hospital staff, and physicians in a courteous and professional manner. Transporter I’s are also responsible for locating and cleaning Department-owned
equipment, such as wheelchairs stretchers, cart, etc.

70% Independently, and without supervision, performs the following activities: •
Transports and / or accompanies patients and their related equipment (such as IV
poles, IV infusion pumps, oxygen tanks, SCD, etc.) to and from treatment units and
outpatient centers within prescribed timeframe and in a courteous and professional
manner. • When called, on occasion, may help lift the patient onto the treatment table,
if requested by the UICMC staff nurse to do so. • Distributes Medical Center
equipment, such as wheelchairs, stretchers, specialty beds, patient monitoring and
other pieces of equipment required for patient care throughout the Medical center
and its entities as required when transporting patients. • Participates in staff
meetings, required in services, posttests, and annual competency review. • Manually
cleans and disinfects patient transport equipment and other related equipment.
Wears appropriate level of personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the
cleaning process. (mask, eye protection and gloves) • Responds to pages within 5
minutes. 10% Delivers urine, blood and other chemical specimen to the Laboratories
and other locations throughout the Medical center and its entities, as required. 5%
Monitors the on-hand inventories of wheelchairs, stretchers and carts. 5% May assist
in totaling trip sheets and / or counts of equipment. May occasionally assist, or “fill in”,
for the purposes of receiving calls dispatching trips. 5% Will participate in
departmental continuous quality improvement initiatives, as assigned. 5% Performs
other related duties, as assigned.

A Transporter I should have basic reading and writing comprehension and skills, in addition to the ability to follow simple oral and written instructions. Basic computer skills are required to enter patient data, trip times, etc. into Patient Transportation IS tracking system.The Transporter I should be in relatively good health, with normal manual dexterity and strength for the purposes of assisting Unit staff with occasional lifting of patients. Transporters I’s are to assist co-workers with transporting bariatric, obese or difficult patients, when necessary and requested to do so. Constant walking and push/pulling motion is a mandatory requirement.
