Job Summary

The University of Illinois at Chicago, Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) is seeking a qualified Candidate to fill the vital role of Assistant Chief Accountant (Senior Staff Accountant) within the Department of Hospital Finance.  The Assistant Chief Accountant (Senior Staff Accountant) is a senior-level  role in financial reporting and accounting for UI Hospital & Clinics.  Areas of responsibility for this role include:  General accounting and financial reporting, Audits, tax and financial analysis. General Ledger duties include:  Managing journal entries received from internal and external sources, Defining required documentation for entries and ensuring supporting information is maintained; Managing General Ledger financial periods and fiscal year-end account closing processes; Preparing monthly Hospital & Clinics financial statements.  Also responsible for maintaining MOU file and implementing procedures for determining and processing payments per MOU terms.

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities

Maintains and monitors the reporting and accounting of 340B drug pricing program, Funds Flow Agreement, and other Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) between, but not limited to, Hospital and the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Nursing.  

Reconciles, analyzes, and ensures transactions are properly recorded on a timely manner and in accordance with GAAP, GASB, SAMS and other standards.  Prepares account analyses to determine if accruals are necessary for month-end close.  Prepares detailed journal entries and processes transfers monthly, quarterly or as stated in the MOU.

In collaboration with College of Pharmacy Finance staff, leads the reconciliation of 340B drug pricing program revenues and expenses and ensures supporting documentation and schedules are complete.  Assesses and recommends resolution to any high risk processes and accounting areas to ensure integrity of the accounting records.

Reconciles Funds Flow Agreement activities and collaborate with Colleges to resolve reconciling item.

In collaboration with UIC Budget Staff, updates the Annual Cost Study that serves as basis for UIC Administrative Allowance charges.  Work with UIC Budget staff to review and verify accuracy of annual administrative allowance invoice.

Prepares annual budgets related to MOUs, 340B Drug Program and other internal activity.

Monitors State Appropriations to Hospital and prepares documentation necessary to access State funding.

Assists as necessary with analysis of financial performance related to Hospital-based clinics and revenue cycle activity

Minimum Accepted Qualifications 

  1. Bachelor's degree with a major in accountancy or (equivalent course work)
  2. A total of three (3) years (36 months) of accounting experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity
  3. A total of two (2) years (24 months) of additional years of experience in professional level accounting work consistent with the next lower level of this series

An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Accounting experience in healthcare enterprise. CPA and/or Masters Degree.
