The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is seeking to fill the position of IT Technical Associate (Network Infrastructure Engineer). The Network Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for the daily maintenance and troubleshooting of the network infrastructure using network management and analytical tools.  Technologies include: LAN, WAN, wireless, routing, switching, VOIP and video.  Equipment includes routers, switches, wireless, VOIP and video systems.   Assists in the research, configuration and implementation of network infrastructure technologies and equipment as required.  Provides level 2 technical support/consulting for the production network on a 24/7 basis to internal IS staff, end users and vendors on daily maintenance issues. Assists in developing the specifications and standards for all network infrastructure equipment and technologies.

 

 

  • Responsible for the daily maintenance and troubleshooting of the network infrastructure and various technologies using network management and analytical tools.
  • Troubleshoot and correct technology and equipment related production issues with LAN, WAN, routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless, VOIP and video systems.
  • Install, configure and maintain network infrastructure systems - set up telecommunication system and internet connectivity links.
  • Willingness to work beyond core business hours, if necessary to minimize business interruption.
  • Assist in development of network infrastructure specifications and standards.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • On Call 24x7 operational support

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Information Systems or related study. A minimum of three years’ experience supporting and maintaining a network infrastructure in an enterprise-wide, high traffic environment. Production deployment experience with firewalls, switches, routers, load balancers, IDS/IPS, VPN technology, SAN infrastructure, IP telephony, video systems, wireless systems, network management tools, encryption.
  2. This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Understanding of the Open Systems Interface (OSI) Technology/Standards model.
  2.  Hands on experience with Cisco network infrastructure equipment. 
  3. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
